...I had been a smoker for 30 years. But my doctor had told me I needed to quit and I was having trouble breathing. I officially smoked my last cigarette on March 2013...Now my self-esteem is better and I know I can reach a goal I set for myself. Hopefully I added ten years to my life too.

Outreach

"The Clubhouse provides an effective reach-out system to members who are not attending or who become isolated in the community, or to those who are hospitalized." (Standard #7 of the International Standards for Clubhouse Programs)

Part of Sky Light Center's daily work involves keeping in contact with all active members. When a member does not attend Sky Light or is in the hospital, an "outreach" call or visit is made. Each member is reminded that that he or she is missed, and welcome and needed at Sky Light. This process not only encourages members to participate, but it is also a way in which the clubhouse knows to provide extra support for members who are experiencing difficulties and may need extra help.

Sky Light's outreach activities include:

  • Calls (Twice weekly)
  • Letters
  • Birthday cards (Monthly)
  • Visits to hospital or home (Weekly)
  • Flyers to inform members about specific events
  • Monthly newsletter

The benefits of outreach for members includes:

  • Becoming informed about upcoming activities
  • The act of outreach strengthens our mutual bonds of fellowship
  • Reminds members that they are wanted and needed back at Sky Light Center
